Brenda Porter (Chairman)

Brenda Porter has been the driving force behind Ainsdale in Bloom since it started in 2014. With years of experience in “In Bloom” projects, Brenda helped Ainsdale become independent from Southport in Bloom, which allowed more local groups to get involved. As the RHS Co-Ordinator, she keeps in touch with Britain in Bloom and North West in Bloom.

Under her leadership, Ainsdale in Bloom has thrived, earning several awards, including the Merseyside Women of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 and recognition from the High Sheriff of Merseyside in 2023. Brenda is also the Chairman of the Ainsdale Community Wildlife Trust (ACWT) and Merefield Special School, showing her dedication to the community and environment.Brenda’s love for gardening and community work has helped make Ainsdale a great place to live. Her efforts continue to inspire volunteers and residents, making Ainsdale in Bloom a shining example of community beautification projects. Brenda has also made extreme headway in the sector of charity and her work has been recognized by multiple higher ups, specifically the mayor of sefton as she was nominated for the role around 10 years ago. We are currently looking for a few supervisors who will look over the jobs that we are completed, we need to plan our business model more specifically and with more intent.

Cheryl Craven (Vice Chairman)

Cheryl Craven, co-chairman of Ainsdale in Bloom alongside Brenda Porter, is deeply involved in Ainsdale’s community life. As Director of EDDA, part of Bridge Inn Community Farm, Cheryl supports adults with additional learning needs and mental health conditions. Cheryl and her husband Carl relaunched EDDA in 2015 as an independent library and arts venue, making it a vibrant hub for all age groups.

Cheryl’s work at EDDA and her role as events coordinator at Bridge Inn Community Farm show her commitment to enriching community life and fostering connections. Her efforts align perfectly with Ainsdale in Bloom’s mission to enhance the village’s beauty and spirit.

Jim Reed (Treasurer)

Jim Reed, co-chairman of Ainsdale in Bloom alongside Brenda Porter, is a key figure in our community’s beautification efforts. He’s a founder member of Ainsdale in Bloom and until recently, an active member of the Village Bloomers. Jim also serves as the group’s treasurer, managing finances, and promoting our activities. Jim’s commitment to enhancing Ainsdale’s beauty and fostering community spirit is evident in his ongoing involvement.

Ken Porter (Secretary)

Ken Porter, a dedicated resident of Ainsdale for over 35 years with family roots in Hillside, brings a wealth of experience and community spirit to his role as Secretary of Ainsdale in Bloom. After retiring in 1992 from the Ford Motor Company, where he held key management positions such as Night Shift Plant Manager and Production Control Manager, Ken continued to contribute to his community. As a founder member and the first Secretary of the Ainsdale Civic Society, his commitment to local initiatives is well-established. Currently serving as Secretary of Ainsdale in Bloom, Ken combines his managerial expertise with his passions for photography and motoring, enriching the community project with his skills and enthusiasm.
